Cronos Browser Documentation
Everything you need to know about using Cronos Browser.
Getting Started
System Requirements
- Windows: Windows 10 or later, 4 GB RAM minimum, 500 MB available disk space
- iOS / iPadOS: iOS 16 or later
Installation
Cronos Browser is available through multiple channels depending on your platform.
- Microsoft Store: Search for "Cronos Browser" in the Microsoft Store and click Install.
- App Store: Download from the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
- Chocolatey: Open a terminal and run
choco install cronos-browser
First Launch
When you open Cronos Browser for the first time, you will see a clean new tab page. The browser comes pre-configured with sensible defaults: ad blocking is enabled, tracking protection is on, and AVALW Search is set as your default search engine. There is no sign-up required and no account needed to start browsing.
Web Browsing
Address Bar and Navigation
The address bar sits at the top of the window. Type a URL to navigate directly to a website, or type a search term to perform a search using your default engine. Press Enter to go. The back and forward buttons are located to the left of the address bar, and you can also use standard keyboard shortcuts to navigate.
Tab Management
Cronos Browser supports full tabbed browsing. You can open a new tab, close tabs, switch between them, and restore recently closed tabs. Right-click any tab for additional options including duplicating a tab, pinning it, or moving it to a new window.
- New tab: Click the plus icon next to the last tab, or press
Ctrl+T - Close tab: Click the X on the tab, or press
Ctrl+W - Switch tabs: Click any tab, or use
Ctrl+Tabto cycle through them - Restore closed tab: Press
Ctrl+Shift+Tto bring back the last closed tab
Tab Suspension
Tabs that you have not used for a while are automatically suspended to save memory. When you click on a suspended tab, it reloads instantly. This keeps Cronos Browser lightweight even when you have many tabs open.
Split Screen and Quad View
Cronos Browser lets you view multiple pages side by side. Split screen mode divides the window into two panels, so you can browse two sites at once. Quad view extends this to four panels, which is useful for comparing content or multitasking. You can activate these modes from the view menu or the toolbar.
AI Assistant
What It Is
Cronos Browser includes a fully offline AI assistant that runs entirely on your device. It does not connect to any server, does not make API calls, and your prompts never leave your computer. The AI model is bundled with the browser and processes everything locally.
How to Use It
Open the AI panel from the toolbar or the side menu. Type your question or prompt into the input field and press Enter. The assistant will generate a response directly on your device.
What It Can Do
- Writing help: Draft emails, rewrite paragraphs, fix grammar, adjust tone
- Code assistance: Explain code snippets, generate simple functions, debug errors
- Summarization: Summarize long articles or text you paste in
- Translation: Translate text between common languages
- Research: Answer general knowledge questions, brainstorm ideas
Limitations
The offline AI is a compact model designed to run on consumer hardware. It is less powerful than cloud-based AI services and may produce less accurate results for complex or specialized queries. It requires CPU resources while generating responses, which may slow down other tasks on lower-end machines. The first time you use it after launching the browser, loading the model may take a few seconds.
Privacy note: All AI processing happens locally. Your prompts, inputs, and generated responses are never transmitted anywhere. There are no API calls, no telemetry on AI usage, and no data collection of any kind.
Search
AVALW Search
Cronos Browser uses AVALW Search as its default search engine. You can search by typing directly in the address bar or by navigating to avalw.org. AVALW Search does not track you, does not store cookies for profiling, and does not log your IP address.
How Search Works
Type your query in the address bar and press Enter. Search results appear on avalw.org with web results, product results, and a news tab. Product search surfaces relevant items from affiliated retailers, and the news tab aggregates recent articles from public RSS sources across dozens of countries.
No tracking: AVALW Search does not build a profile of your searches. Each query is independent, with no cookies, no IP logging, and no personalization based on browsing history.
Privacy Features
No Tracking
Cronos Browser does not track your browsing activity. There are no analytics scripts, no behavior profiling, and no data shared with advertisers. Your browsing history stays on your device.
Built-in Ad Blocker
The ad blocker is enabled by default and removes most display ads, pop-ups, and interstitial overlays. This results in faster page loads and a cleaner browsing experience. You can disable it for specific sites if needed through the toolbar icon.
Tracker Blocker
In addition to ad blocking, Cronos Browser blocks known tracking scripts and fingerprinting attempts. Third-party cookies used for cross-site tracking are blocked by default.
Public Telemetry
Cronos Browser publishes basic, anonymous telemetry that is fully transparent. This includes aggregate statistics such as total active users and general platform distribution. It does not include browsing history, search queries, personal data, IP addresses, or any information that could identify individual users. You can review what is published at any time.
What is NOT collected: Browsing history, search queries, form data, passwords, cookies, IP addresses, location data, device identifiers, or anything that could be tied back to you personally.
Favorites and Categories
Adding Favorites
Click the star icon in the address bar to save the current page as a favorite. You can give it a custom name and assign it to a category. Favorites are accessible from the sidebar or the favorites manager.
Organizing with Categories
Categories let you group your favorites into logical collections, such as Work, News, Shopping, or Research. You can create as many categories as you need and move favorites between them at any time.
Filtering and Managing
The favorites manager lets you search through your saved pages, filter by category, and sort by name or date added. You can edit, rename, re-categorize, or delete favorites from this view.
Stellar Mode
What It Is
Stellar Mode is a minimal, distraction-free browsing mode. It simplifies the interface by hiding non-essential UI elements, giving you a clean view focused entirely on the web content. It is useful for reading long articles, focused research, or when you simply want fewer distractions.
How to Enable It
You can toggle Stellar Mode from the view menu or by using the toolbar button. The browser will switch to a simplified layout immediately. Toggle it off the same way to return to the standard interface.
Usage Dashboard
What It Shows
The Usage Dashboard gives you an overview of your browsing activity, including time spent browsing, number of pages visited, and your most-visited sites. It helps you understand your browsing habits at a glance.
Local only: All dashboard data is stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any server. If you clear your browsing data, the dashboard statistics are reset as well.

Do I need to create an account?
No. You can use Cronos Browser without signing up for anything. There is no account system required for browsing.
Does the AI assistant require an internet connection?
No. The AI assistant runs entirely offline on your device. It does not need an internet connection and does not send any data to external servers.
Can I change the default search engine?
Cronos Browser uses AVALW Search by default. You can navigate to any search engine manually by typing its URL in the address bar.
Why do some websites look different with the ad blocker enabled?
The built-in ad blocker removes ad elements from pages, which can occasionally affect layout on sites that rely heavily on ad placements. If a site does not display correctly, you can disable the ad blocker for that specific site using the toolbar icon.
How much memory does the AI assistant use?

Where is my browsing data stored?
All browsing data, including history, favorites, and dashboard statistics, is stored locally on your device. Nothing is synced to a cloud service or transmitted externally.
Does Cronos Browser support extensions?
Cronos Browser does not currently support third-party extensions. Built-in features like ad blocking, tracker blocking, and the AI assistant cover the most common use cases.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Send an email to office@avalw.com with a description of the issue or your suggestion. Include your operating system and browser version if reporting a bug.
Is Cronos Browser available on Linux?
